2021 Year In Review
January: L&T Construction reveals India’s first 3D printed two story building
In what is now a tradition, COBOD was involved in another “first”. This time the first 3D printed two story building in India, a 65 m2 house made by L&T Construction, the biggest construction company in India.
February: Printed Farms 3D prints the first building in Florida
Printed Farms in Florida, our first US customer, unveiled their first 3D printed building. The building for farm equipment was just a humble beginning to more ambitious projects later in the year.
March: COBOD fiscal 2020 results show 100% growth and profitability
As a testament to the success of COBOD, in 2020 we realized a massive growth of 100% and also saw a jump in profitability. It proves that the industry is looking for new solutions and that we are recognized as the ones offering this.
April: JGC, in Japan, unveils their purchase of a BOD2
One of Japans largest Engineering, Procure & Contracting companies joins the future of the construction industry with the purchase of a BOD2 3D construction printer.
May: GE Brings COBOD Concrete 3D Printing Technology to Climate Summit
President Joe Biden hosted the Climate Summit, and GE, one of COBOD’s partners, presented our mutual project about 3D printing of concrete windmill towers to President Biden and other world leaders from 16 different countries.
June: Habitat for Humanity and PERI 3D prints affordable house in Arizona
One of the big potentials of our technology is to tackle the housing shortage in an efficient and cost reducing way. Proving that it can be a reality, PERI and Habitat for Humanity in partnership printed the house using our BOD2 3D construction printer.
July: Habitat for Humanity prints the East Coast’s first 3D-printed Habitat home
Documenting that the story from Arizona is not a “one off”, Habitat for Humanity unveiled a new 3D printed house the next month. CNN reported on this house, writing that the house gives hopes for that the housing crisis in the US can be solved with the help of 3D printing technology.
August: 14Trees unveils the world’s first 3D printed school in Malawi
After completing a small family home in Malawi, 14Trees unveiled their next project: The first 3D printed school in the world. Due to the importance of this event World Economic Forum reported on the project. The success of the project shows how 3D printing could be transformative in Africa, where there is a dire shortage of schools.
September: 3 new projects being completed in the US by COBOD customers
Printed Farms new 3D printed house in Tallahassee, FL, another project in Virginia and PERI’s project in Arizona showed that the US is eager to participate in the disruption of the industry, which COBOD is leading with our unique BOD2 3D construction printers. We are looking forward to many more exciting projects that will happen in US, which we will announce in 2022.
October: PERI 3D prints the largest office in Europe and the first 3D printed building in Austria
PERI expanded their 3D printing operations to Austria, where a new office space for STRABAG was printed using a BOD2 3D construction printer.
November: The World’s first 3D printed house printed with real concrete is unveiled in Angola
Power2Build from Angola announced, that they completed the world’s first building 3D printed entirely with real concrete. This was possible due to the special additive solution, D.fab, developed by COBOD and CEMEX, which makes it possible to print with concrete made from 99% local materials.
December: Largest real concrete 3D printed building proves that the Concrete Revolution is here!
The month after a second house 3D printed with real concrete was unveiled in Oman. With 190 m2 this is the largest 3D printed building made with real concrete. The cost of the concrete to print the house with was less than 1.600 Euro, proving that the 3D printed concrete revolution is here and it will bring down the cost of materials with up to 90%!
